CD: Neil Halstead, Oh! Mighty Engine

With his shoegazing days in Slowdive far behind him and things noneffervescent quiet on the Mojave 3 front, Neil Halstead has nestled back into the folds of the twilight folk he first discovered with debut solo album Sleeping On Roads. Six old age on, he's found a new base on fellow surf junky Jack Johnson's label, simply his butter-soft acoustic mumblings remain rightful to his whimsical British spirit. "From London to the Irish coast, this is the land I love, love the most," he sings on Queen Bee, his voice a windswept sigh. Every column inch the poetic everyman, Halstead pricks the egos of inspirational sirens on No Mercy for the Muse and offers up his follicles for love in Baby, I Grew You a Beard. But disdain the playful mandolin and nods to Morten Harket, the snoozy melodies weigh down his homespun wisdom of Solomon, and this little engine runs out of steam.

Festivals Join Forces To Take On Giant Events

Organisers behind some of the UK's most revered festivals have joined forced to take on their more powerful counterparts.

The alliance, which includes Bestival, Creamfields an the Rock Ness festival, will see the events work together to promote more cost effective events.

Leicester's Summer Sundae and Electric Picnic are also involved in the partnership, which also aims to make events greener.

Rob Da Bank, the curator of Bestival, said it was important for smaller festivals to “ride out the problems and make them better for the customer”.

Already this year a number of independent festivals have been forced to postpone their events as a result of low ticket sales.

James Barton, owner of Creamfields, said the alliance was a “real opportunity” to help “deliver exciting business ideas.”

LOS ANGELES, May 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Coldplay announce their

Before kicking off the "Viva La Vida" tour, Coldplay will play free
concerts in London (June 16th at the Brixton Academy) and New York (June
23rd at Madison Square Garden). Information on how to win tickets to these
shows will be available at http://www.coldplay.com beginning today. The
contest will run May 9th through June 1st. Winners will receive
notification on June 5th.

Viva La Vida, Coldplay's upcoming album, will be released by Capitol
Music Group on June 17th. Produced by Brian Eno and Markus Dravs, the
record is the follow-up to 2005's X&Y, which debuted at #1 in 32 countries
and has sold 10 million copies worldwide to date.

The album's lead single "Violet Hill" was downloaded by two million
people during the recent one-week period in which the band made the song
available to fans for free. It is now for sale at all digital retailers and
is quickly rising to the top of the charts at Modern Rock and AAA radio.
Coldplay will perform "Violet Hill" on the "TODAY" show on NBC on Friday,
June 27th. Fans are encouraged to check out the performance in person.
Viewing is on a first-come, first-served basis outside the show's Window on
the World Studio, located at 49th Street and Rockefeller Plaza in New York
City. The band will also perform on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with
Jon Stewart" on June 26th.

"(Lead singer Chris) Martin broods over a lost lover with a snarling
acidity that makes him sound more human than ever -- miles away from the
dreamy romantic he was on soaring ballads like 'Speed of Sound,'" said
Rolling Stone, naming "Violet Hill" a must-have in a recent "Downloads"
column. "Jonny Buckland rips jagged, bluesy riffs that match Martin's mood
while drummer Will Champion and bassist Guy Berryman maintain a stalking
beat ... primal rock & roll." The Los Angeles Times pronounced the single a
"promising return," also marveling at its harder edge.

'Sarah Marshall' ads hard to forget, skip

Spot for film ranked among most-watched by TiVo users

Sarah Marshall, one of the main characters in Universal's "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," proved memorable or at least entertaining enough to keep TiVo viewers from skipping ahead.

A broadcast spot for Universal's "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" ranked as the highest among commercials airing during a show, according to April ratings released by TiVo.

The spot ran during an episode of NBC's "The Office," which failed to make the top 10. The ad campaign for "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" also was the least fast-forwarded on broadcast primetime in April, TiVo said.

"Once again, the lack of correlation between ads viewers choose to watch, compared to the top-rated programs, is astonishing," said Todd Juenger, vp TiVo audience research and measurement. "The commercial with the highest viewership appeared in a program that didn't even crack the top 10. The highest-rated program, 'Grey's Anatomy' airing on April 24, had 33 paid commercial spots in it, but only two of them (both for motion pictures) made the top 10 commercials."

Ads for new movies comprised five of the 10 best-ranked commercials that aired during the month. Among the top five commercials were ads for the film "Hancock" during ABC's "Grey's," for Ford during Fox's "American Idol," for the film "Made of Honor" during ABC's "Desperate Housewives" and for Glaceau Vitamin Water, also during "Idol."

In terms of time shifting -- where viewers have the option of fast-forwarding and have control over the ads they watch -- the top four ads ranked the same, with a spot for the movie "Sex and the City," which ran during "Housewives," coming in fifth.
